ConvertKit is my favorite email marketing software that is built for online business owners and fellow creators who want to grow their list and nurture their audience.
And up until recently, ConvertKit has been a pay-to-play service.
With the release of ConvertKit’s Free Plan, you’ll be able to create beautiful landing pages and subscribe forms to help you grow your email list, expand your audience and increase engagement… all with zero financial commitment. I’ll walk you through step-by-step on how you can get started with ConvertKit’s free plan.
ConvertKit’s free plan includes:
- Unlimited landing pages and opt-in forms
- A full library of landing page templates
- Broadcast sending
- Tagging and segmenting subscribers
- Thank you pages
- Access to their referral program
- Access to the ConvertKit Community
To unlock more advanced features you can simply refer your friends via their referral program or upgrade to a paid plan. When you’re ready to start using their visual automation or sequences features to set up an email drip or nurture sequence, you’ll likely be ready to upgrade.
When I was first exploring ConvertKit they didn’t offer the free plan. And after being with MailChimp’s free service for so long I didn’t see the point of upgrading to a paid service. But when MailChimp made some major changes to their interface and pricing, I knew the time was right to explore ConvertKit.
If you’re shopping around for the best email marketing software, you’re coming in at a good time since it costs nothing to explore ConvertKit’s free plan. And unlike their standard 14-day trial, you’ll get access to the above features in your free plan forever.
While I am currently on their paid plan myself since I regularly use their automation and sequences features, I can still see the value in their free plan.
If your email list is small to non-existent and you’re just getting started in the world of email marketing, this is a great place to start.
Why are they offering a free plan now?
No switching platforms. ConvertKit saw a trend in leaders in our industry recommending beginners start with a free service like MailerLite or FloDesk and then when they’re ready to switch over to ConvertKit. It can be burdensome to have to switch email service providers in the midst of running a business. So ConvertKit created the ability to beginners to start with them and then stay with them.
Side note: if you are switching from another provider, they make that a breeze, too. Instructions on how to add existing subscribers will be shared when you create your new account.
Simple entry point. There’s no overwhelming with visual automation or email sequences when you get started with the free plan. It’s a simpler entry point into email marketing where you create a simple landing page, gain subscribers and then stay in touch with them. Simple and free.
Decreases churn. ConvertKit was seeing a 12% cancellation on its $29/month plan. The biggest reason for these cancellations were “I’m not ready” and “I don’t even have a website.” So ConvertKit had the idea that maybe their landing pages could replace the need for a traditional website just so someone could get started.
Who is the free plan for?
Anyone who’s new or new-ish to email marketing. Those with little to no list or just getting started in growing their email list. Regardless if you’ve been in business 5 days or 5 years, ConvertKit is great place to start when you’re ready to leverage the world of online marketing.
As a web designer, I feel this is an excellent great solution for coming soon pages for those who are revamping their sites or just don’t have the time or energy to focus on their website right now.
